Abstract

Analysis of the stability of two precision instruments in a place where the environmental impact parameters are known is an urgent problem in geophysical metrology. Knowing the spectrum of disturbing interference, it is possible to evaluate the synchronism and adequacy of temporal changes of highly sensitive sensors installed next to each other. In this study, we analyzed signals recorded by two precision tiltmeters installed on the same pedestal in the basement of the Schmidt Institute of Physics of the Earth, Russian Academy of Sciences. Statistical analysis of the obtained time series made it possible to identify a wide range of tilt fluctuations, including the annual (seasonal) temperature wave. At the same time, the stability of the level of detected disturbances and, in particular, the seasonal variation makes it possible to use them as a natural “calibrator” in the records of parallel instruments and to assess synchronism in the functioning of parallel tiltmeters. The results make it possible to use the created observation system as a test system in assessing the adequacy and metrological stability in recording tilts in monitoring mode for any types of tiltmeters that can be placed in parallel with the installed (reference) devices.
