Real-time monitoring of UV curing by fiber-integrated Fabry–Perot sensor

Optical fiber sensing technologies play an important role in the optimization of chemical material production processes and curing monitoring in new materials development. A novel fiber-integrated Fabry–Perot interferometer sensor is proposed and demonstrated in this work. For the first time to our knowledge, this development realizes the real-time monitoring of UV curing. The sensor was composed of a wedge-shaped capillary optical fiber sandwiched between two standard SMFs. Owing to a small volume (<0.4 nL) of opening FP cavity, only one drop of UV glue sample needs to fill the cavity. Experimental results show that the sensor demonstrates good linearity and high refractive index sensitivity of 1162.5 nm/RIU. The sensor can be fabricated with simple processes and its fast response speed, high precision, good stability, and good repeatability enhances its usefulness in applications such as monitoring structural change, biological or chemical reaction.
