In Memoriam William E. Price (1926
IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science ( IF 1.9 ) Pub Date : 2021-05-18 , DOI: 10.1109/tns.2021.3077326

William E. (“Bill”) Price joined the Army Air Corp during World War II after graduating from high school. His first two years of higher education were at Gettysburg College, Gettysburg, PA, USA. With an interest in nuclear power, he transferred to Waynesburg College and completed his Bachelor of Science degree in physics in 1951. He began his career as an entry-level physicist at the Naval Ordinance Lab in White Oak, MD, USA, where he learned about designs of torpedoes and mines. To pursue a more nuclear-related career, he transferred to the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC, USA, where he pursued research into the effects of high-energy radiation on materials, becoming one of few people in the United States to be knowledgeable in that area. Bill also pursued advanced physics courses at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, MD, attaining the equivalent of a master’s degree.
