Effect of Continuous Application of Organic and Inorganic Fertilizers on Fertility of Soddy Podzolic Soils and Crop Productivity in Fodder Rotation in the European North

Abstract

The effect of organic and inorganic fertilizers, as well as their combinations, on soil fertility and productivity is studied on the soddy podzolic light loamy soils in the stationary field experiment. The highest efficiency of combined application of organic (80 t/ha of peat–manure compost) and inorganic (NPK) fertilizers is determined in a six-field fodder crop rotation. The positive effect of the organic and organic–inorganic fertilizer system on the soil’s organic matter content, a decrease in exchange and hydrolytic acidity, and an increase in the mobile phosphorus content is found. A decrease in exchangeable potassium in the soil is observed due to its high removal by crops. It is determined that the above fertilizer systems contributed not only to an increase in the yield of crops in rotation but also their quality. The content of starch and vitamin C increased in potato tubers and crude protein increased in annual and perennial grasses.
