Abstract
An analysis is performed of the main trends in using lipases for the synthesis of esters of different structure. The effect of nonaqueous media, lipase immobilization, and substrate specificity on the process of enzymatic esterification is described. Examples are given of enzymatic esterification reactions that occur under industrial conditions with two types of fixed- and fluidized-bed reactors. Esters synthesized via enzymatic catalysis are categorized according to their chemical composition. The promise is shown of using lipases in esterification aimed at creating esters of different structures and purposes.
