Abstract

The origins of football in the Lublin region in Poland have not been examined in much detail. Two documents authored by Lieutenant General Kazimierz Sosnkowsk, Polish Minister of Military Affairs 1920–1924, were used to uncover the course of the development of football in this region – the ‘Game rules of football according to the French method’, written in 1903, and ‘Instructions in conducting a sports discipline in the army’ written in 1921. These documents were analyzed to determine the emergence of the first football clubs (e.g. WKS Lublin, WKS Chelm, and ZGKS Makabi) during a particularly complex historical period, until the development of the Lublin Regional Sports Association in 1922.
