Structure and Properties of the Shell of Elementary Aluminum Oxide Yarns

The results of studies of domestic aluminum oxide filaments performed by the methods of factography, scanning probe microscopy, and IR spectrometry are summarized. Factographic data showed the structural heterogeneity of the filaments in the radial direction, expressed in the presence of a shell and a core, and the shell significantly differs in physical and mechanical properties from the core. By means of scanning probe microscopy, the presence on the surface of filaments of a regular structure characteristic of oxides, most pronounced in amorphous aluminum oxide, has been established. IR spectrometric studies have confirmed the assumption that the shell of the filaments consists of amorphous nanostructured aluminum oxide.
