BACKGROUND
Sangbaipi Decoction(SD), a traditional Chinese "Ancient Classical Prescriptions" consisting of eight medicinal materials, is usually used for asthma due to excess lung Qi and excessive phlegm-fire.
OBJECTIVE
To establish a comprehensive quality evaluation methods of SD.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) fingerprint analysis, hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) and principal component analysis (PCA) were applied for quality control of SD prepared by different batches of medicinal materials. Subsequently, total 10 batches of SD samples were prepared and analyzed.
RESULTS
Total 24 common peaks and six peaks(gardenoside, rutin, berberine, palmatine, baicalein, and wogonin) were displayed and identified in HPLC fingerprint of SD. Ten batches of SD samples were divided into four groups via cluster analysis and principal component analysis. HPLC fingerprint similarities of 10 batches samples were not less than 0.934. The precision, stability, repeatability, and other methodological studies suggested that developed method met the requirements of qualitative research of fingerprint technology.
CONCLUSION
The result indicated that HPLC fingerprint combined with principal component analysis and multi-component determination can be successfully applied to the quality control of SD. This study can provide a basis for a more comprehensive quality evaluation method for SD as well.
