In the United States, approximately one in three adults have experienced violence from an intimate partner. More specifically, approximately 37 percent of women and 27 percent of men in Texas have experienced at least one form of abuse in their lifetime (Busch-Armendariz, Heffron, & Bohman, 2011). Intimate partner violence (IPV) may result in a range of physical, social, emotional, and economic consequences, as well as being detrimental to health (Beydoun, Beydoun, Kaufman, Lo, & Zonderman, 2012; Campbell et al., 2002; Kaysen et al., 2007).
