The Innovations of Yangsigang Yangtze River Bridge

Abstract

The Yangsigang Yangtze River Bridge is a mega suspension bridge with a main span of 1700 m. It is double-decked with 12 lanes of motorway serving urban transportation. The bridge was opened to traffic in October 2019 and it has become a significant project case with high reference value, because of its pioneering characteristics such as being a double-decked structure with large span, having large diameter high-strength steel wires adopted for the main cables, having an all-welded structure adopted for large girder segments, being designed with innovative methods, etc. This paper introduces the innovations of the project from the perspectives of design and construction, as well as describe the advanced design concepts and practical technologies used for this truss girder suspension bridge. The aerodynamic stability, fire safety, fatigue performance and appearance innovations of this bridge are also introduced for engineering reference.
