The surface of the primary shell layer of Septaliphoria excitata (Smirnova, 1978) bears rhombic imprints of the epithelial cells that secrete the periostracum. The primary layer is pierced with micropores. The bundles of fibers of the secondary layer are directed at various angles, up to a right angle to the neighboring bundles.
