Terahertz Slot Dielectric Waveguide Implemented on the Silicon-BCB-Quartz Platform

A novel terahertz slot dielectric waveguide based on the Silicon-BCB-Quartz platform is proposed, and the design example for the 500 to 570 GHz frequency range is presented. Moreover, the proposed waveguide is fabricated and measured, and its low loss characteristics are verified experimentally. The proposed waveguide provides a highly confined electric field ( $\frac{\lambda _{0}}{\text{6}}$ × $\frac{\lambda _{0}}{\text{28}}$ at 530 GHz), which can be extremely advantageous for sensing and nonlinear applications in the terahertz frequency band.
