ABSTRACT

In all biogeographical regions of the world, the family Philopotamidae Stephens 1829 is represented by 26 genera and 1508 extant species. Based on extensive surveys since 2008, and data from previous literature revealed 7 genera and 155 extant species of the family Philopotamidae in India. A new species Kisaura similis sp. nov. is described and illustrated from the Indian Himalayas. With this addition genus Kisaura is represented by 40 valid species from India. The Himalayan belt has higher species number than the rest of India.
