Humic and Lipid Components Derived from Lignite

Abstract

Samples of Tisul lignite from the Kansk-Achinsk Basin are studied by elemental and technical analysis and IR and NMR spectroscopy, as well as chromatography and mass spectrometry. The humic acids and bitumen extracted from those samples and the coal residues are also investigated by the same means. The ability of the samples to adsorb copper, zinc, and lead cations from aqueous solutions is studied. The components obtained may be used for various purposes: the coal residues and humic acids permit rehabilitation and recultivation of polluted soil; and the humic material and bitumen may be employed for soil consolidation and stimulation of plant growth (to counter desertification).
