Abstract
The structure of an electric field at the cathode edge under emission in the ρ mode in an applied inhomogeneous magnetic field is investigated in the framework of the theory of antiparaxial expansions for a relativistic ribbon beam. Shapes of the lateral surface of a cathode and the negative equipotentials are described, which make it possible to form a profiled expansion gap that does not violate the accepted hydrodynamic model of the flow.
