Abstract
The mechanical properties and the structure of steel drill pipes, which were decommissioned because of through pitting corrosion and rupture, are investigated. The formation of the acicular structure of secondary sorbite, which ensures the high strength properties of steel drill pipes, is found to cause their accelerated stress corrosion cracking.
