Alessandra Brugola of The Drinks Trust describes a new career mentoring programme in the drinks sector.

Since 1886 The Drinks Trust, formerly The Benevolent, has provided care and support to the people who form the drinks industry workforce, both past and present. The Trust is the drinks industry charity and its mission is to provide individuals with services across vocational, wellbeing, financial and practical support.

As part of The Drinks Trust's repositioning in early 2020 and having consulted the industry's stakeholders, the charity set the goal to be a community organisation that supported people through their careers, both in professional development and skills through financial and wellbeing support services. Never has there been a more critical time for the vibrant and creative industry's workforce to come together in a digital space where they can learn from and support one another.

With that in mind, last year The Trust announced the launch of The Drinks Community, a platform dedicated to creating connection and opportunity. The Drinks Community is an online member platform where people from the UK drinks and hospitality industry can share knowledge and network; it will provide a bridge between disciplines, specialisms and product channels in our sector. The initiative predates the challenges the industry has faced since March 2020, so whilst it is more pertinent than ever before, it was, and remains, a service designed to further opportunity, promote skills and learning, encourage networking and the cross‐pollination of ideas and experience.

The ambition is that the Community will become the leading networking, upskilling, careers and vocational space for the UK and hospitality drinks industry. It will help members grow and develop in their careers by offering access to both inspirational and practical advice, which will be delivered alongside vocational materials, networking opportunities, forums and exclusive content.
