Polarized Neutron Diffraction in the Single-Crystal Studies

Abstract

A review of various methods based on the use of polarized neutron diffraction with and without subsequent polarization analysis is presented. Various methods of polarized neutron diffraction for studying magnetic properties of materials have been theoretically substantiated. It is demonstrated that polarized neutrons can efficiently be used to determine the magnetic properties of structures, to separate magnetic and nuclear contributions, to analyze the magnetization-density distribution in crystals, and to study chiral effects. Examples of experimental studies, the results of which confirm the uniqueness of this technique for solving problems of physics of magnetic phenomena in solids, are presented.
