Rupture of intracranial aneurysm without any warning is very likely in asymptotic patients and high rate in rupture risk brings the necessity of development and utilization of high-resolution imaging modalities. Here, the assessment of scanning acoustic microscopy (SAM) in identifying cerebral aneurysm, is done. The aneurysm’s dome samples, obtained from 6 male and 6 female patients with and without subarachnoid hemorrhage, are analyzed and the acoustic impedance values of samples from female patients are found statistically higher than those of samples from male patients. Besides, acoustic impedance of a sample from a male patient without subarachnoid hemorrhage has higher value than those of samples from other male patients who all have subarachnoid hemorrhage, while, in female patients, this discrepancy is not observed. Consequently, monitoring capacity of SAM, by measuring acoustic impedance values in humans with and without subarachnoid hemorrhage, indicates its potential in the diagnosis of cerebral aneurysm instability.
