In this paper we provide a detailed description of the life in former Russian Empire of the prominent mechanics scientist Stephan P. Timoshenko. Description is based upon the letters written by his son Gregory Timoshenko as well as by S.P. Timoshenko himself in his autobiographic book As I Remember. We concur with S.P. Timoshenko's colleague and co-author James Gere, who stated that the Letters by Gregory Timoshenko “which tell about his family's life, are being written for his grandchildren. Since most of the history in the letters is also the history of Stephen…the letters should be preserved in the library with other Timoshenko material.” These letters complement the material in S.P. Timoshenko's autobiographical book, providing additional glimpses one their lives.
