I humbly accept the honor of being appointed the new Editor‐in‐Chief of the Scandinavian Journal of Psychology. I thank the owners, the Nordic Psychology Associations and Wiley, for placing their trust in me. The journal has seen a pleasant increase in impact and readership over the last few years and I hope to aid in maintaining and improving this developmentbuilding on the success of my predecessors. The Scandinavian Journal of Psychology remains an important outlet for Nordic psychological research.

I have not yet had the pleasure to meet with the editorial board in person. However, we have had some discussions about how we will organize the ever‐increasing workload of managing a scientific journal. One of the interesting side effects of COVID‐19 (apart from the surge of papers about the consequences of the pandemic) is the increasing number of papers being submitted to journals: This obviously results in more rejections, and an increased workload for Section Editors. I hope that with our recent changes to how we manage the submissions we will get back to a more efficient workflow. I would like to thank the veteran Section Editors for their hard and valuable work in recent years, and I also wish to welcome our recently appointed Section Editors, who will add their knowledge and insights to the running and development of the journal and the field.

As all new editors probably do, I will also make some small changes. The journal has flourished with its four sections: Cognition & Neuroscience, Development & Aging, Personality & Social Psychology and Health & Disability. However, I believe the latter section will do even better, and become more contemporary, with a small tweak. We will therefore change this section name to Health & Work Psychology. Most psychological disability is evident in or out of a work context, and we believe this will also be of interest to psychological practitioners in the field. I also believe this more applied approach will benefit our readers. I would also like to add an extra section to make the journal even more relevant to the members of the Nordic psychology associations: Clinical Psychology & Mental Disorder. We wish to receive and publish—and with this new section: highlight high‐quality clinical psychological science that is useful and translatable to clinical psychologists in the Nordic countries and beyond. We already receive and publish papers that would fit under this heading; however, we wish to highlight this research better. These changes also reflect the growth of first‐rate psychological research within the Nordic countries over the last decades.

There are few things that are harder to predict than the future. However, in this case the future is already upon us: I expect that this journal will become influenced by the open science movement in years to come, as all mainstream science outlets ought to be. We have already started this process with a few, small changes, to increase transparency. But we hope to see further changes to accommodate this development. I look forward to making these changes, gradually, in collaboration with the Editorial Board and our owners.
