Abstract

A polynomial with nonnegative coefficients does not have zeros in a sector around the positive real axis. It is shown that other polynomials with different sign restrictions on their coefficients satisfy similar properties, which is then applied to derive conditions that widen the angle of the zero exclusion sector for polynomials with positive coefficients. A geometric approach is used for all results.
