Modelling and simulation methods for microstructured optical fibers

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we present guidelines for the simulation of microstructured optical fibers (MOFs), for finding their guided modes and their nonlinear and dispersive characteristics. For the case of hollow-core MOFs, we also present guidelines for studying their photonic bands. Then, we review the results of nonlinear pulse propagation on those MOFs, showing how some of them are particularly well suited to be used as efficient supercontinuum or UV light sources.
