The COVID-19 pandemic has powerfully altered paediatric practice. Certain responses have been predictable, such as reconfiguring hospitals to address anticipated patient surges. Others, like the explosive increase in virtual care usage (1–3), have been unplanned. This technology has made high-quality care accessible when its reliable delivery in-person had been seriously threatened. Yet as virtual solutions offer creative possibilities to facilitate health care and primary and secondary education, it is important to recognize that many children and youth living in Canada, particularly those in rural areas and remote Indigenous communities, do not enjoy equitable access to this vital resource (4–6).
