summary:

Livy’s narrative of the 169 b.c.e. invasion of Macedonia led by the consul Q. Marcius Philippus is of particular interest because his principal source here, Polybius, accompanied the Roman army (Polyb. 28.13.1–6). However, the text of Book 44 is based on a single lacunose, jumbled, and corrupt manuscript dating to the fifth century c.e. and known as the Codex Vindobonensis or V. In this article we address textual problems in the narrative, both those represented by cruces in Briscoe’s Teubner edition of Books 41–45 and others where currently accepted emendations seem to us capable of improvement.
