Focusing on undocumented Peruvian migrants in South Korea and, upon their return, in Peru through the analytic lens of conversion, this concise, ethnographically rich book examines the possibilities that the Korean context provided for Peruvians to refashion their identities and to attempt to shape the values and behaviors of their families and communities. Situating individual lives within global hierarchies and structures of power, Erika Vogel draws on fieldwork and interviews between 2006 and 2011 to move seamlessly between the intimate level of individual lives and the structural level of global hierarchies and processes to provide a multilayered snapshot of migration experiences and globalization.
