The Covid-19 pandemic has thrust the field of human resource development (HRD) into a forced state of change. Operating in a changed landscape means meeting developmental challenges with an open mindset, a willingness to be curious, and being ready to explore new requirements placed on our expertise (McAleese, 1999). Developing human expertise to adapt to new challenges and circumstances and harness the resources needed to respond is a key role of HRD. Responding with expertise means being in a state of readiness to activate knowledge and skills while, at the same time, determining specific new knowledge and skills that are needed to provide the necessary solutions (Sasangohar et al., 2020). The positive news is—when responding to matters of learning, we are already operating in our element!
