ABSTRACT

This paper adds a new approach to the study of victims’ discourse based on Herman and Chomsky’s original theorisation of worthy vs. unworthy victims. From a translation perspective, the paper investigates ideological intervention in media translations reporting on the victimhood of civilians. The study is based on a comparative analysis of English and Arabic media texts from international and national news outlets that have reported on various events during conflicts in the Middle East. The study argues that solidarity relations are a critical element that influence the text producer's/ translator's discourse, and can work at the expense of victim-oriented values.

本文基于赫尔曼和乔姆斯基关于有价值与无价值的受害者的原始理论，为研究受害者的话语增加了一种新的方法。从翻译的角度，本文探讨了在报道平民受难情况的媒体翻译中的意识形态干预。该研究基于对报道中东冲突期间各种事件的国际和国内新闻媒体的英文和阿拉伯文媒体文本的比较分析。该研究认为，团结关系是影响文本制作者/翻译者话语的关键因素，并且可以牺牲以受害者为导向的价值观。
