ABSTRACT In this address, Dr. Munsell offers his perspectives on SSCA as a welcoming community of mentors. He then moves to explain how different terministic frames describing the meaning of higher education in the 19th-Century still reside with us today, particularly when it comes to the hyper-vocational and STEM-centric aura of contemporary American Higher Education. Sharing research on job market trends, Dr. Munsell showcases the limits of STEM education and uses information from the National Association of Colleges and Employers and NCA's Learning Outcomes in Communication to illustrate how Communication Education supplies the type of Competences employers are really looking for. Moreover, Munsell argues that Communication Education trains students to be virtuous citizens and builders of egalitarian communities.

SSCA,STEM
