In this issue, we begin with a tribute to Tony Maluccio, a thought leader whose contributions to therapeutic residential care were boundary-spanning in scope. Dr. Whittaker provides a personal and professional history of Dr. Maluccio and his impact on the field. He will be greatly missed. The empirical papers in this issue consider some of the most vexing questions facing residential programs: (1) How do we measure the quality of TRC programs? and (2) What evidence-based treatments best support our youth in care? For the first topic, Boel-Studt and colleagues describe their efforts to develop quality standards and performance measures for residential programs in Florida. Their process and lessons learned can be helpful to other jurisdictions who are seeking to measure and promote high quality placement settings. Next, Izmirian and colleagues consider the issue of repeated residential placements and how to identify youth who may be at risk for this outcome. In considering effective treatments in residential settings, Agarwal and Ray consider child-centered play therapy as a treatment modality for youth in residential settings. Finally, Mishra and Sondhi share voices of orphaned adolescents in India and their views of their residential care experience. The findings highlight how the residential program provided opportunities and motivations that buoyed young people and enhanced their resilience. Prospective authors are encouraged to submit manuscripts to the journal to join the conversation on these and related important topics. The journal accepts original research articles as well as shorter pieces that describe practice concepts or innovations in care. Commentaries, book reviews, position papers, or letters to the editor will also be considered. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and insights!
