Henry Sifiso Gumede

The novel Ikhiwane Elihle (“All that glitters is not gold”) revolves around the ingenious plans the main character devises to keep her three men apart, in spite of her grandmother’s warning that what she is doing flies in the face of traditional behaviour and that she can only expect sorrow out of her multiple relationships. Molefe’s novel is conditioned by a large number of factors affecting public morals, and therefore human sexuality and an outlook on women in society. The author supports traditional morality by his choice of language that underlines and exemplifies the traditional value system.
