An applicability study of scoping libraries on BWR fuel assembly designs

In BWR fuel assembly design, the axial enrichments require repeated adjustment for the optimization of the design. Every time the axial enrichments change, a lot of effort has to be spent to perform lattice calculations for generating a new cross section data library. The inconvenient situation can be circumvented by using scoping libraries that enable the two-group constants interpolation functionality for various enrichments of a fuel segment. Before the application of scoping libraries on BWR fuel assembly designs, several aspects of the applicability need to be examined. In this study, we examined the linearity of macroscopic group constants, errors in power peaking related parameters and core analysis results when scoping libraries were applied. The results showed the applicability of scoping libraries on fuel assembly designs when the fuel segment enrichments for generating a scoping library have an enrichment interval of less than 0.4%.
