side her theoretical exploration of an expanded concept of the archive, colonial fantasy, and “true relations,” provides fresh insights into the archives and texts that underlie all scholarly attempts to write literary history and challenge us to rethink and restructure the ways we excavate, interpret, and tell such stories. If, at moments, Bross seems to push the limits of informed speculation, the theoretical approach that grounds her combination of imagination and interpretation is rigorously articulated and “should spur us to return to the written record of early globalism, to trace the threads that connected the metropole to even the most unlikely places and people worldwide” (198).
