Method for Fault Identification in Nonlinear Systems Based on Sliding-Mode Observers

Abstract

The problem of the functional diagnostics of engineering systems described by nonlinear differential equations with constant coefficients in the presence of disturbances is considered. To solve the problem of fault identification, the sliding-mode observers are used. The proposed approach is based on the idea of constructing a reduced model of the original system (a model with a lower dimension) with selective sensitivity against the faults and disturbances, and this model then becomes the base for constructing the sliding-mode observer. In addition to reducing the dimension of the diagnostics tools, the proposed approach allows weakening the restrictions imposed on the original system to make it possible to synthesize sliding-mode observers.
