Linear Regression (LR) Based Method to Estimate Person Distance Using AWUS036NHA-Wifi Sensors

The distance of devices with specific mac-address can be estimated using a Wi-Fi sensor that supports listening. Due to each Wi-Fi sensors limitation that gives different pattern data, this research conducts a Wi-Fi sensor experiment for iPhone and android smartphone to get a general linear regression model to find the distance equation. This research aims to discover the linear equation for iPhone and Android smartphones by capturing probe-request data using the Wi-Fi sensor and making a validation by experimenting with another new smartphone. The result satisfied the experiment’s environment with the assumption all the settings follow Line of Sight (LOS) condition. This preliminary research shows that smartphones with fewer obstacles get a better result than others to improve obstacle objects.
