Doctor Marta Bogusławska-Tafelska is the series editor of “The Studies in Ecolinguistics” series of linguistic monographs at Cambridge Scholars Publishing. She has authored several significant ecolinguistic monographs, including Towards an Ecology of Language, Communication and the Mind (2013), Towards the Ecology of Human Communication (2015), Ecolinguistics: Communication Processes at the Seam of Life (2016), and Communication as a Life Process: beyond Human Cognition (2017). Her research focus on ecolinguistics manifests itself mainly in the domain of cognition and communication, in an endeavor of holistic and post-Newtonian paradigmatic framework of viewing communication basically as a life process. Ecolinguistics: Communication Processes at the Seam of Life (2016) is one of the many monographs which can reflect this core notion thoroughly. Bogusławska-Tafelska adopts a systematically communicative approach to ecolinguistics in this monograph. She uses “language” and “communication” interchangeably throughout the book and attempts to establish an ecolinguistics of communication, in responding to the paradigmatic shift of current ecolinguistics from reductionism to holism. Given that, her central tenets of viewing language as a life process and ecolinguistics as a new linguistic paradigm are highlighted throughout the book. Her ecolinguistic claims from the perspective of language and communication try to account for the limitations of mainstream cognitive linguistics within the Newtonian paradigm critically. Therefore, never before has any other ecolinguist devoted to this paradigmatic agenda so thematically and thoroughly. Accordingly, her ecolinguistic theory of life process can fall into three parts: the comparison of “old linguistics” and “new linguistics,” the conceptualization of ecolinguistics as a life process theory, and the construction of ecolinguistics as a new agenda for education. The preface elaborates three things: the background, the main purpose of writing
