Fouskas’s study on Nigerian immigrants is a very welcome contribution to the research on immigration in Greece, as well as in Europe more generally. The extended extracts from his interviews with Nigerian immigrants help us gain insight into the beliefs, hopes, and frustrations of a social group that otherwise would remain silent, at least in terms of its public representation. Additionally, the study sheds light on the way labor precarity and low wages have a radical impact on social and communal bonds, eliminate possibilities of organization (communal and/or union), and in a way destabilize what used to be thought of as the building blocks of society.
