Numerical Simulation of Stress on Threaded Cutters with Ceramic Inserts

Abstract

In this paper, we perform numerical simulation of stresses in the cutting wedge of ceramic plates of cutters when cutting persistent threads on high-strength materials in order to determine the permissible values of the cutting feeds at each pass. This method replaces a physical experiment that requires a lot of time and significant material costs, and this experiment must be performed again for each pair of materials of the cutting blade and the workpiece. The proposed method is based on the use of known reference data on the physical and mechanical properties of materials and modern methods of mathematical modeling in the SOLIDWORKS environment. The example given here shows a good convergence of the results of physical and numerical experiments, which allows us to recommend the method proposed for implementation in practice.
