Much has been written about the value of art in our society and one of the things that the arts do so effectively is communicate the feelings and emotions of living through a specific time in history. In 2020, the world is going through a very challenging time. Bruce Munro, a British artist whose works are in large-scale and experiential, hopes that his art can speak to that challenge. In a recent interview Munro said, “that’s the idea, to bring a bit of light and joy to people’s lives.” Brookgreen Gardens, the oldest sculpture garden in America, is the venue for the latest installation of Munro’s work and it truly feels that it is the perfect place and time for this type of inspirational art. These large multi-media pieces would seem to be in contrast with the majesty of the sculpture and gardens of Brookgreen, but instead the effect is harmonious.
