The opening of the Indian economy brought changes to the aesthetic practice as well as to the circulation of dance, which in turn changed the way dance is viewed, taught, and compensated. After twenty years of reality dance shows, it is certainly time that someone has looked critically at how those changes have affected Indian identity formation, and Chakravorty has done this admirably, even starting to consider the emergence of gendered differences.
