Phototransferred thermoluminescence of tanzanite: A matrix-based analysis of time-response profiles and competition effects

We report the phototransferred thermoluminescence of tanzanite induced by 470 nm blue light. A glow curve measured after irradiation to 120 Gy and heating at 1 °C s−1 shows three nominal peaks at 86 °C (peak I) and two secondary peaks at 160 °C and 320 °C. The latter two peaks are collocated peaks with each one consisting of multiple components. Phototransferred thermoluminescence is only reproduced at peak I. Although this work addresses phototransfer, the system studied is unconventional in that the phototransferred TL is associated with an indeterminate number of donors. A matrix-based method has been used to analyse the time-response profiles of the phototransferred thermoluminescence. Competition effects, where putative donor electron traps act in competition with acceptor electron traps, have been studied using empirical models.
