Valencia answered that they catalog mostly videos and Blu-rays and they catalog from the container, which does take time to do this.Smith answered that they do factor in the format and the time it took to do these formats. They differentiated between everything, for example, they asked themselves if the item was: AV or a kit? Sound recording or printed music? Furthering the differential by asking if it was AV, was it copy cataloging or original catalog, etc.? An audience member asked the presenters from NC State how they maintained documentation for others and if they thought about using linked data. Whittenberger responded that they have not done anything to create a standard data link, but they have exposed it to Drupal so there may be future use to expand searches for students through linked data. A question arose for Skeen regarding if the overall library collection used the DDC. She responded that the modified version was used only for specific sections as talked about in her presentation. A follow up question was asked what they used outside of special collections and she responded that they used Library of Congress (LC). Additional question was if they ever thought about reclassifying the SCA collections to LC and Skeen stated that they are set on keeping it DDC because it helped to keep SCA separate from the circulating collection which was LC. An additional question for Skeen highlighted the mention of the 21 different classifications. The audience member asked how the different classifications were physically shelved and how did they affect paging. Skeen answered that they are all housed separately and that it did impact paging. They train students using a map. A follow up question was if there were any plans to consolidate these different classifications. Skeen responded that they have talked about it, but so far no. They were taking baby steps to make changes happen.
