The final panelist, Paul Frank, coordinator of the Name Authority Cooperative Program (NACO) and the Subject Authority Cooperative Program (SACO), described his role. It began for him with a phone call for an unusual request. LAC wondered about joining NACO. They would need training for about 50 catalogers who were simultaneously moving to a new, bilingual system. They would need to use 7xx linking fields which, for the current NACO community, were seldom used. The last national library to join NACO was the National Library of South Africa in 2004. HE said that the time frame for getting to NACO independence was longer than a typical institution joining, beginning in 2015 and finishing just before the ACIG in June 2019. The Descriptive Cataloging Manual, section Z1: Name and Series Authority ITY Records, now has a separate sheet (12.9) on the successful Canadiana conversion project.
