ABSTRACT

Relying on a wide range of literary history sources covering the first third of the twentieth century, especially publications in pedagogical and literary periodicals, this article examines the reception Russian critics gave to one of the most popular female Russian children’s writers, Lidiia Charskaia. Attitudes of prerevolutionary and Soviet critics toward Charskaia’s works are compared, and an analysis is offered of the main principles and techniques applied in criticism of children’s literature.
