ABSTRACT

According to social differentiation theory, professional activity of elite sports physiotherapists is characterised by potential conflict between the social logics of the medical sector and elite sports. Sports physiotherapists in Germany are part of the medical sector. By their work, they prevent illness and promote health. However, within the context of elite sports they run the risk of being instrumentalised for achieving victories in athletic comparisons. Using a reconstructive hermeneutic approach, the present study explored the function and role expectations of sports physiotherapists from the perspective of professional coaches engaged in elite athletics. Four semi-structured interviews were conducted. Two main themes were identified: 1) Attributed tasks and expected physiotherapeutic effects, 2) expectations on the physiotherapeutic time arrangement. Findings suggested that the narratives of the coaches were mostly bound to the agonal logic of elite sports and mainly designated sports physiotherapists as performance enhancers over health.

根据社会分化理论，精英体育物理治疗师的专业活动的特征是医疗部门的社会逻辑与精英体育之间的潜在冲突。德国的体育物理治疗师是医疗领域的一部分。通过工作，他们可以预防疾病并促进健康。但是，在精英运动的背景下，他们冒着被用来在运动比较中获得胜利的风险。本研究采用重构解释学方法，从从事精英体育的专业教练的角度探讨了体育物理治疗师的功能和角色期望。进行了四次半结构化访谈。确定了两个主要主题：1）归因于任务和预期的物理治疗效果，2）对理疗时间安排的期望。研究结果表明，教练的叙述大多与精英运动的痛苦逻辑联系在一起，并且主要指定运动理疗师作为增强健康的表现。
