chapter in this book. Muftić shares his personal experiences of growing up as a migrant child. He touches on themes such as being confronted by a hierarchy of cultures in every new place he arrived; the continuous processes of negotiation of perceptions; the repeated ‘building of a new home... fraught with the struggle against disappointment and comparison making’ (p. 198). The second part of the chapter provides the full text of The Life and Work of Petrović Petar (2007). This text is filled with imagery bringing the themes discussed to the reader in a creative and visceral way. Who should read this book? While reading I found myself oscillating between a diversity of perspectives, arguments and theories, my mind filled with provocative images; I also had an opportunity to stand in someone else’s shoes, to gain insight into their experiences. I believe that this book is a thought-provoking resource for academics, scholars and educators of the humanities and will resonate especially with practitioners and academics in the performing arts. Most of all I recommend this book to those who contemplate and participate in the increasingly crucial global discussions relating to migrancy; the traumas experienced; the acts of violence against, and processes of tolerance and acceptance of, migrants and refugees; the questions that such acts pose about our humanity; and the power and responsibility of theatre when engaging with this context.
