The Italian film Nuovomondo (2006) by Crialese narrates the story of the migration of a poor Sicilian family towards the United States at the beginning of the 20th century. In this article, I argue that one of the strengths of this film is its ability to render visually the trauma of the migration and the postcolonial disruptions created by the passage from a rural society to a modern and capitalistic one.
