So does the book live up to its title? The number of issues it brings up from the practical (e.g. managing and preserving personal digital materials) to the macro (e.g. impact of PDA on society) demonstrates the scale and importance of the subject while providing solutions that can be tailored to many scenarios. Although it would be hard for a book of this kind to claim to be complete, due to the constantly changing digital landscape, there is plenty of material to provide a comprehensive introduction to PDA and to help information professionals build a business case for funding a PDA initiative. Despite the book’s valid concerns about how the commercial world impacts PDA, one area not covered is how PDA could be applied in a commercial context for purposes such as improving engagement with employees and local communities or to preserve legacies of businesses with significant cultural importance that have been taken over or wound-up. Despite the myriad challenges facing personal archives in the digital space, Thomas’s conclusion to Chapter 14 provides sage advice: ’It’s more important to get started and keep going than to do it perfectly.’
