Twenty nineteen marked the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC). This special issue of Cataloging & Classification Quarterly (CCQ) celebrates that significant milestone. Many voices have offered scholarly articles, reminiscences, oral histories, and reflections to celebrate the history and achievements of the PCC. It is my hope that through these stories, memories (some which differ), facts, and opinions, readers will learn not only the factual history of PCC and its many programs and projects, but also gain insight into the people, value shifts, technologies, and professional culture that brought the program to where it stands today as a leader in the promotion of discovery and use of the world’s information. The issue is divided into four sections, each of which covers a rough time period in PCC’s history. Each section is preceded by a short quote from Beacher Wiggins, Director for Acquisitions and Bibliographic Access at the Library of Congress. Beacher is possibly the only librarian still working at the Library of Congress who has been associated in various capacities with the PCC’s development from day one. As such, I thought it would be interesting to ask him what stood out to him about each of these time periods in order to help set the stage. He agreed and graciously provided me with some thoughts via email from which I have excerpted these quotes. The first section focuses on PCC Beginnings as told by voices that participated in PCC’s formation. And as the Wiggins quote reminds us, the PCC was initially focused on bibliographic and authority records for print books. Sarah Thomas, the then Director of Cataloging at LC, leads off the issue with the backstory of PCC’s birth and goes on to explore its future potential from a unique vantage point of a founding member. Wolven describes the early days of the PCC from a different perspective, that of a person outside of LC who served as a director of a large technical services department during a time when shared cataloging was no longer cost efficient. Bishoff and Patton describe the length and depth of the OCLC/PCC partnership, while the interview with Smith-Yoshimura reminds readers that
