Abstract Along the western and northern margins of Silver Lake (one lobe of remnant late Pleistocene Lake Mojave) near Baker, California, there are three locations where groups of circular/oval and linear stone features constructed of local cobbles and boulders extend from the latest Holocene shoreline out onto the playa. At two of these locations, other stone features on talus slopes just above the playa seem to be associated with the features on the playa. We hypothesize that the playa features functioned to facilitate resource procurement during times when the playa was flooded from the middle to late Holocene. We further hypothesize that the ring-shaped or arc-shaped features on the talus slopes were temporary dwellings, windbreaks, or storage units used concurrently with the playa features.
